Our Pledge of Organic Excellence

Round Right Farm is an uncertified organic farm. We have decided not to seek organic certification because of the additional cost since the West Virginia Department of Agriculture has ended subsidies for certification. In these times, we are more committed to making organic food affordable and accessible to all. We invite you to visit our farm anytime to see our regenerative organic farming in practice, especially if your are one of our susbscribing members. If you would like a formal tour, please make an appointment so we can give you our full attention.

Our Pledge

We promise not to use unnecessary and harmful inputs in the production of our produce and meats. This means that we do not use any of the following:

• Synthetic and chemical pesticides or herbicides
• Fossil-fuel based or chemical fertilizers
• Genetically modified seeds or feeds
• Growth hormones or antibiotics
• Manure from animals whose daily diet includes antibiotics or synthetic hormones

At Round Right Farm, organic means that we make every possible effort to improve the quality of our soil and increase the number and diversity of our soil organisms. Our ongoing goal is to increase the nutrient content in our fruits and vegetables as well as provide you with the most nutrient rich varieties of produce.

We also incorporate cover crops and apply compost or mulches which add organic matter to the soil to improve soil quality. The food itself allows the bulk of micro and macroscopic organisms to grow and multiply. These organisms convert formerly living tissue (organic matter) into nutrition for the plants. They then become plant-available nutrients themselves when they die and decay. Undigestible portions of organic matter remain in the soil, adding to its moisture retention nutrient  capacity and soft texture.

Soils with large amounts of organic matter and a diverse biosphere also create a stress-free growing environment, giving plants an ideal place to flourish and find the strength they need to become naturally pest-resistant. Combined with a good crop rotation, this makes pesticide inputs largely unnecessary. We have never been tempted to try agricultural strategies based on substances which are not biologically derived. Instead, we seek out organic solutions to farming's many challenges, such as adding plants which deter pests.
